The Four Types Of Serial Killer Minds

By Marissa Velazquez

Few people know that serial killers are almost entirely an American phenomenon or that most of them are located in California. They do know that these killers will not stop killing on their own and must be captured or killed to stop the bloodshed. To try to alleviate the natural fear they have many want to explore what is in serial killer minds and what makes them the way they are.

The killers are sorted into four types. The first type of motivation is called the visionary. They report acting on instructions from another source. The source is usually a figure of authority such as God or the devil. Other authority figures can also be cited as the cause of their actions. It is not uncommon to hear of a father or mother as the origin of the voices they hear.

Those who are on a mission are said to feel as though they are cleaning up the community by killing specific types of people. They have deemed these people to be unworthy and in need of removal from society. The killer can focus on any type of group or individual whether it is street people, religious sects or social organizations.

A hedonistic killer enjoys the pain and fear he generates in his victims. This is most likely why the kid who tortures animals begins what can be a brutal lifestyle. Hedonistic killers are separated into three distinct groups. They are lust, thrill and comfort killers.

Lust is driven by sexual gratification. They get sexual gratification out of their torture and control of the victims. Making sure that their victim is totally under their control helps to alleviate the feelings of powerlessness they experience now or in their past. Most of these kills are done with close contact weapons such as knives or the hands. As time passes the necessary amount of stimulation increases and the cool down between kills becomes shorter.

Thrill killers appear to be driven by the adrenalin rush they get from watching someone die at their hands. The pain suffered by their victims increases their pleasure and they can be random people who are killed. These individuals can wait for long periods between killings and sometimes use the time refining their technique in an attempt to avoid attracting attention from the police.

Comfort killers will kill to ensure their own financial security. The most common victims are family members who are well off or who have an estate that is desirable. After a kill they will wait until the rest of the family has relaxed before they strike again. Poison is usually the chosen weapon for comfort killers. They will also kill for government checks that family or friends receive each month.

The last major group is the media killers. They blame the violence seen on TV as the reason for their behavior. As with most of these individuals they want to blame someone else for their behaviors. Many times they will place the blame on parenting or social acceptance or the lack of it. Serial killer minds can be called psychopathic in nature. They do not know how to feel sympathy for others and have none of the moral stops that keep other people from committing these crimes. The question looms that if their up-bringing is the cause of their behavior why are their siblings not serial killers.
