The Secret To Self Empowerment Through Team Building

By Robert Hamilton

The principle of nature is that no man can achieve much alone yet no team can achieve anything without contributions from individuals. The strength of any organization or business lies in tapping into the strength of individuals. This is the idea behind self empowerment through team building. As complex or strange as this idea appears, how can you achieve it at personal or business level?

Develop activities that implant new ideas into the minds of people. One of the ideas to dismantle is that success lies in a boss-servant relationship. Bosses must feel as complements of the workers and workers as participants in the overall success of an organization. Prepare participants to embrace new ideas and ways of doing things. This creates a new mindset that will be felt in all your activities in future. This will open a path for workers to make suggestions that will drive the organization to new heights.

Engage in activities that help participants to build trust. A lot of workers lack confidence in their ability because they have not been trusted. The activities you prepare should help bosses and colleagues to learn how to trust each other. Once they return to work, each views the other as having greater potential.

Organize activities that show the power of supporting each other. Organizations and businesses have trends of competition and boss-worker terrain. A lot of the workers can do more but they are rarely supported. They fail to make contributions when decisions are being taken or remain with excellent ideas because they lack support. Look for activities that would make participants to feel like their efforts are complementing each other.

The organization must learn to recognize, encourage and then reward talent or skills within. It takes a single objective to begin a project. However, the input of all participants will matter. If a business or organization sticks to the responsibilities and job descriptions that were indicated initially, it will never get anywhere. You need to recognize people who are emerging, encourage them to keep moving and reward them for the effort. Others will crop up and push your business or organization a step further.

Maintain a positive spirit and outlook for the entire organization. A lot of negative things happen for organizations and are inevitable. The comments made and actions taken will determine the impact these occurrences have over the organization. It requires the guidance of leaders and continuous effort to maintain this positivity.

Teach participants on the benefits of working together or collaborating. The bigger goals can only be achieved when the contribution of everyone counts. The urgency to appreciate individual contributions is very important. It helps you deliver faster. You will use fewer resources, time and still achieve more if you collaborate.

Individuals who are empowered will create organizations that are powerful. Though team building events are meant for the entire organization, there are vital lessons to be learnt for individuals. If individuals are not empowered in an organization, its foundations are weak and will not deliver success.
