The Secret To Dealing With Raw Emotions

By Larry Murphy

A single act or person will ruin a day that appeared so bright and promising. The resulting raw emotions cause you to say words or act in a way that you regret in future. According to experts, you must find a way of managing these feelings else you will regret for the rest of your life. What can you do to keep these feelings in check?

The simplest and easiest way to deal with rage is to take a deep breath. This can be done on spot and spontaneously. It gives you the precious delay that will stop you from taking an action that you will regret for the rest of your life. You will also be buying time to help you view the issue from a better perspective.

Consider the circumstances and reasons that would have caused the offender to act the way he or she did. Most nasty reactions arise from the thought that you have been offended. Unfortunately, you have no idea why the person acted that way. Take a minute to evaluate the situation. You might realize that your reaction or action would have been similar in the prevailing circumstances.

Leave the scene. Remaining at the scene or seeing the perpetrator of the atrocious event took place makes a person angrier. Take a break from the person and entire scenario. It will save you from taking a drastic step that you will regret later. It will also help you think of a better solution other than anger and quick reaction.

Master your thoughts. Any action you take and the feelings that persist will depend on what is going on in your mind. Control the ideas that are being digested on your mind. Avoid being negative. Find a solution as fast as possible. Stop any negative thought whenever it crops up. Such an action will prevent you from acting in a way that you will regret in future.

Adapt controlled behavior or reaction to a situation. Controlled behavior or action can be attributed to the character of a person. It means that you have developed a way of dealing with similar situations. You are required to act as the bigger person in the circumstance. This remains the only way to make a reasonable decision.

Highlight the feeling, acknowledge that it exists and accept that it is consuming you. This can be regarded as the highest form of consciousness. You are fully aware of the situation and how it is making you to react. Since you are conscious, you will have better control of the reaction. This helps you to avoid acting negatively and later regretting the step you take.

Soothe yourself. Each person has a way of calming his or her senses down. It could be by humming a song, taking a walk, tapping on the desk, watching the horizon or even talking to someone. The technique buys time and also helps you avoid drastic and regrettable actions. It takes practice and a lot of restraint to take control of your emotions.

A support system will help you manage the boiling rage. This could be a friend, relative, senior, colleague or people in your network. They offer a platform to bounce-off the anger and cool down before taking a regrettable step.
