Marketing on the internet is a booming business, and it's what a lot of people think of when they think of ways to make money online. What most people don't know is how exactly to go about making that money, it's not a matter of just clicking a few buttons, never mind the popular image. A great way to connect people to your site is by including keywords in your URLs. Some URLs contain number and symbols instead of words, which does nothing to help humans or search engines categorize your site. If necessary, get rid of the non-descript numbers, and change your URL format so that it uses two or three keywords.

Learning about basic elements of good web page design will be time well spent. For instance, you can teach yourself about HTML, CSS, and other design basics using information or tutorials you find online. Spending just a half an hour every day learning about good web page design will give you a lot of ideas in as little as a few weeks.

Follow-up with customers. Ask if they are benefiting from your product or service. Ask if there's anything you could have done better. If you want to take it a step further, follow-up with non-buyers as well. Find out why they didn't buy anything and ask what would have made them do so.

Create a Facebook page and solicit fans. Consumers spend a lot of time on Facebook, and consumers tend to trust word of mouth recommendations from their friends. When your customers become fans of your business, all of their Facebook friends will be notified amplifying your online presence immediately.

You can improve your internet marketing by starting a blog and posting to it frequently. A high-quality blog that you add content to on a regular basis gives you another way to connect with potential customers. In addition, you will eventually attract more visitors to your website because you are, in effect, expanding the reach of your website and increasing your search engine rating.

While keywords are very important, and you will want to use as many of them as you can in your site, beware of using too many as well. Search engine spiders are programmed to ignore sites that literally "stuff" their pages with keywords in order to be found. They are marked as spammers and actually show up lower in the search results or not at all.

Learn that improvements can always be made. Just because you think your website looks perfect, does not mean that it is. Look at competitor pages to see how and why they are showcasing their products and try to one-up them. There is no such thing as a perfect website and the sooner a website owner recognizes that, the sooner they can make positive changes.

When doing any form of internet marketing, don't forget to include a call to action, wherever in your content that you want people to take an action. Novice marketers often neglect this and that's part of why they don't succeed. Your whole marketing strategy should not be calls to action, because then people feel like you're treating them like walking wallets. However, it's also not much good to you if you focus on creating quality content without any calls to action. Use any call to action, strategically.

Avoid using the meta refresh tag to set up redirects for your site. Unfortunately the use of meta refresh tags is a common tactic for spammer sites so the search engines rank down sites that use them. Use a 301 redirect instead for sending readers to a new URL.

You can get more web page views if you create an XML Sitemap. Many search engines bring up results that have these. It is simple to create an XML Sitemap. Use an XML Sitemap generator and then upload a site back on the front page of your website. Also, make sure to tell sites like Google where it is located.

As you build and market your brand online, find ways to create a unified image that extends to your logo, website, packaging and advertisements. A continuous color palette and consistent font usage, can make your brand and products appear more professional, reputable and legitimate. Do not include neon or clashing colors in your marketing materials, simply because they are attention-grabbing. Include them, only if they are part of your total "look".
