Why People Enjoy Contemporary Cowboy Romance Novels

By Beryl Dalton

People all over the globe enjoy the steady unfolding of a fairly good story. While there is sometimes tension between the characters, this adds to the drama and excitement that exists in the story and in most cases, will take it from fairly good to memorable. Bibliophiles enjoy guessing what the outcome of the conflict will be, if any exists between the protagonists. Contemporary cowboy romance novels deliver all of that, keeping readers guessing until the final pages.

In essence, whether a story in this genre is written with erotic elements or vague sensual scenes, it must have increasing attraction between the heroine and hero that engages the reader. If the content does that, it will be more likely to become popular. Anyone who delves into a story in this genre generally sees attraction build mentally and emotionally.

Nothing heats up a page like a sexy man. Prosperous authors realize this and they usually spend quite a bit of time crafting a hero who each reader will respond to well. Westerns are known for rugged stories and the men that are found in the pages of these books are expected to be built for the challenge of outdoor life. They are physically attractive and have the rugged determination to match any difficulties they face.

Many people who are fans of this genre like to take a virtual trip to another place. They do that through the words which are written in these books. The vivid descriptions made available through the author capture their imagination. They can use their mind to picture rolling hills, beautiful meadows and high mountains against a gorgeous sky.

Readers want to know what regular life is like outside of their own community. Reading about the Western lifestyle gives them a break from the routine of their own habits. It also allows them to vicariously experience things that they would not do on a regular basis. For example, they can imagine themselves riding horses instead of bikes.

Although contemporary romances are based in the West, heroines found within the pages struggle with the situations that modern women and men face. Problems faced by men and women nowadays, such as figuring out how to claim insurance after an accident, add conflict. This is why some fans gravitate towards the texts. It makes identifying with them easier than relating to a school teacher or grocer who worked and loved under different conditions.

In addition to what is expected, that is, romance in a Western setting, there are several sub genres as well. For example, some books have Christian themes. In fact, it is quite common to find both modern and historical books that have a religious theme in this area. Usually, bibliophiles can enjoy a story where both characters grow in character.

While cowboys are usually associated with Texas, fans also look forward to enjoying stories set in other places. For example, Montana and Colorado are popular settings for cowboy themed love stories as well. People who like Canada and the natural beauty of that country will find romances that take place there also.
