Five Celebrity Children's Book Authors

By Linda Ruiz

It seems that well-known individuals have many talents. There are so many that have become celebrity children's book authors. The variety of stories they have produced are charming and engaging as well as unique. The sale of these volumes is usually higher than regular editions because of the famous names attached to them.

Famous actress and a daughter to a famous actor, Jamie Lee Curtis has authored many books for the younger set. They include "Other Moods That Make My Day" and "Tell Me Again About the Day I Was Born." She uses Laura Cornell, a talented illustrator for these works who produces fantastic pictures to go with the story lines.

Country and western legend, Dolly Parton, re-styled one of her songs into a story for young children. "Coat of Many Colors" is the tale of a poor young girl whose mother could not afford to buy a coat for her. She made one for her daughter instead but the little girl was subjected to ridicule and scorn because of her shabby coat which was made out of rags. She told the children how really rich she felt in the coat her mother made just for her.

World-renowned adult author, James Patterson, broke his usual writing routine when he began writing for young children. His "Middle School" series is all about what it is like for this age group in school. His works have been placed on the New York Time's bestseller list many times and he has also won book awards in 2011 and again in 2012 for his original and ground-breaking books.

Famous country singer and writer, Tim McGraw, has penned two heart-warming books for his young daughter. "My Little Girl" was his first and depicts a daughter's day with her dad. The second, "Love Your Heart, " is about the act of being kind to others.

Brooke Shields, top model and movie star, penned a story of a little girl becoming a big sister. "Welcome to Your World, Baby" shows how helpful this big sister was to the new baby and what she dreamed their relationship would be when the infant was older. This would make a perfect gift for a child about to become an older sibling.

A very unlikely juvenile author, Madonna has written several stories for the younger set. Best known for her hit singles "Material Girl" and "Like a Virgin, " this famous rock singer and winner of four Grammies has surprised many with her stories for the younger set including "The English Roses" and Mr. Peabody's Apples, " among others. Each of her tales have positive life lessons subtly imbedded into the story lines.

Even though all of the proceeding authors made it big in other areas, these individuals do seem to have many skills and they deserve all the recognition they can get for taking the time to produce works for youngsters. For many, it is far removed from their original careers and it is a surprising, but touching move for them to take on this literary task.
